This is a documentary that attempts to follow the footprints of Kolkali, the art of a foregone era. Kolkali(stick dance) is a folk dance form believed to be in existence for more than a millennium. Documenting an art where there is no such authentic past study makes this work all the more significant. The backdrop of this documentary is set in Payyanur in Kerala which is famous for a long tradition of Kolkali art.
The documentary has been made keeping in view of the historical, academic and societal interests of kolkali and would stand out a reference point in future. The emergence of kolkali, its social, cultural, political traditional impact, its lively practice and performance, inferences from doyens, its woman factor, its fight for existence, new situational analysis etc. And a host of other related aspects are sequentially positioned in this documentary.
